Review of the Bulk Solids and Powders Industry in Poland

Tom Higginbottom Reports Following Attending the SyMas Exhibition

Last week, our Sales Engineer Tom Higginbottom spent 2-days at the SyMas Bulk Solids and Powders exhibition in Krakow, Poland with Bunting’s local representative, TEKPRO.  Whilst at the show, he gained an insight into the present state of the market and potential opportunities for UK exporters.Bunting_at_SyMas17-17

Tom gives us his insight in the show, local feelings about BREXIT, and the market in general

“SyMas was a really good show with a busy footfall.  There was a lot of equipment on show, from manufacturers based all over the world.

From the type of enquiries and from talking to clients and our distributor, it is clear that the bulk solids and powders sector is growing.  Despite being a member of the EU, Poland remains an emerging nation and wages are still lower than in more developed European countries like the UK, Germany and France, but that gap is closing.  Their skill base is very high and consistently improving.

There is a lot of Western European investment and many of the manufacturing facilities are state-of-the-art.  This matched with the lower wage cost and workforce skills make the Poles very competitive in both European and global markets.

It was interesting speaking with the Poles about the UK leaving the European Union.  Generally, people thought that being a part of the EU makes it possible to compete with larger economies such as China and the USA.  Brexit has introduced an unknown factor and there was a feeling that, without the UK, the EU would have less negotiating power on the world stage.SyMas Tube Magnets 2

I think that the growth of our local representative TEKPRO highlights the expanding market and potential opportunities in Poland.  Since they were founded 10 years ago, they have expanded their workforce from 4 to 84 people.  It is an exciting time and we are working closely with them to maximise our sales potential in Poland.

At the show we received enquiries for both Magnetic Separator and Metal Detectors, including 3 specific projects where clients require Pneumatic Self Clean Drawer Filter Magnets and Drum Magnets.

Attending the SyMas show was really worthwhile and allowed me to gain an insight into the market which simply is not possible without being at the exhibition.

Recycling Business Development in France

Bunting Europe and Pronix Talk About Opportunities in the French Recycling and Waste Sector

At the RWM 2017 recycling and waste exhibition (12th – 14th September, NEC, Birmingham, UK), we caught up with Bunting’s Dave Hills (Head of Sales) and Alex Jarosz from the Bunting distributor in France, Pronix.

Pronix has been developing business in France for Bunting Magnetic Separators and Metal Detectors for the past 18 months.  Alex Jarosz has the specific responsibility of developing business in the waste and recycling sectors and had travelled across from France to attend RWM.  We asked why he felt that visiting RWM was important.

Bunting Master Magnets at RWM17

Alex:  “This was the first time since the acquisition that we had the opportunity to meet the Master Magnets team and visit their facility in Redditch.  In the days leading up to the show, I’ve been able to have some product training, which has helped broaden my knowledge and understanding.

Master Magnets have an extensive range of Magnetic Separators and Metal Detectors specifically designed for the recycling and waste sector.  With the acquisition, it is really exciting to be able to offer these to customers in France.”

Alex also explained that he was in the UK to discuss the details of a new metal recycling project.

Alex:  “We are working on a new project where the customer is looking to supply a complete Metal Separation System (Drum Magnet and Eddy Current Separator).  We could all (Pronix, Bunting and Master Magnets) review the project in detail to ensure that what we are proposing is what the customer needs in terms of separation and installation.  The visit has been invaluable.”

We then asked Alex about the state of the recycling and waste sector in France.

Alex:  “In May 2017 we had an election and new government.  This always affects business confidence.  The waste and recycling sector in France has been struggling, with a great deal of restructuring.Bunting Master Magnets at RWM17

However, our new president Emmanuel Macron has put the circular economy and recycling at the heart of our government’s economic model.  In fact, they have stated that they are aiming for the use of 100% of recycled plastics through the economy by 2025 as part of their aim to have a 100% circular economy.  The present recycling rate for plastics is 21% and so we anticipate huge changes and investment in new waste recycling plants.”

We asked Dave Hills about Alex’s visit to the UK.

Dave:  “18 months ago we started working with Pronix to develop business in France.  At the start we had very little, if any, presence in France, but Pronix have steadily changed that.

The acquisition of Master Magnets has significantly expanded our product portfolio and opened up new potential in France.  It is an exciting time.”

Pronix will be exhibiting at Pollutec 2018 (27th – 30th November, Lyon) the next major waste and recycling show in France.

Export Success at FIP Solution Plastique Exhibition

Bunting Magnetics Support BMS France at Plastics Show in France

Dave Hills, Bunting Europe’s Head of Sales, was on the stand of local distributor, BMS France for the duration of the major annual international plastics exhibition, FIP Solution Plastique, held in Lyon, France between 13th and 16th June 2017.  Dave gave us this report:

“Last week [13th to 16th June] it was hot and humid in Lyon.  And it was debatable whether the air conditioning in the exhibition centre was actually working.  However, the turnout for the show was fantastic.

FIP Solution Plastique is the number 1 show for the plastics sector in France.  There was a technically and globally diverse group of exhibitors present, all specialising in working in the plastics industry.

We were present to support our local distributor BMS France.  Being on the stand gave me the opportunity to develop relationships with the BMS team, deliver some product training, and also learn about the plastics market in France.  I also had the opportunity to meet the BMS Spain team, based in Barcelona.

It was also good to meet and talk with other equipment suppliers, many of who had equipment on display at the show.  It was interesting to hear their feedback on present market conditions.  We find exports visits such as this invaluable.

Bunting_FIP_Solution_Plastique_France-1987

Along with our Metal Detectors and Magnetic Separators, BMS had a wide range of equipment on the stand.  There were 3 operating Boy Injection Moulding Machines on one stand and a Woojin Injection Moulding Machine on a 2nd stand.

There were also 5 Wanner Granulators, and Pixargus had a live demonstration of their unique surface inspection and dimension measurement system.

The extensive range of products and the interactive nature of the BMS France stand made it one of the busiest at the show.

Bunting_FIP_Solutions_Plastique_17-1985

It was interesting to think that all of the aforementioned equipment relies on the plastic pellets and raw materials being metal-free.  And getting metal out of plastic is our speciality.

BMS France was able to talk to visitors about a complete solution, with demonstrations of the quickTRON 03R Metal Detector and FF Drawer Filter Magnet removing both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Being in France also gave me an opportunity to hear people’s thoughts about BREXIT.  Unlike some other European countries that I have visited since the referendum, people in France have a very negative opinion about the UK leaving the EU.  In fact, many people asked whether the decision could be overturned.  This just highlights the importance of a negotiated exit that involves free trade.

However, the atmosphere at the exhibition was very positive.  Indeed, BMS France sold 2 Injection Moulding Machines at the show, which was fantastic.  And both will be protected by Bunting Metal Detectors and Magnetic Separators.

An excellent show and we will be back in 2018.”

HFS Drawer Magnet Removes Metal from Recycled Plastics

French Plastics Recycling Operation Installs Bunting Drawer Magnet

The latest HS Drawer Magnet has just been boxed ready for despatch to a Plastics Recycling company in France.  The Magnetic Separator was manufactured in the Bunting Magnetics European manufacturing facility in Berkhamsted, UK.

HSF_Drawer_Grate_Bunting-1864

The French Plastics Recycling operation will install the HS Drawer Magnet to capture and remove ferrous metal contamination from the reclaimed plastic.

HFS Drawer Magnets are commonly used in virgin and secondary plastic processing operations.  The Magnetic Separator is equipped with powerful Neodymium Rare Earth Tube Magnets which enable the capture of both very fine iron and also work-hardened Stainless Steel.

How the HFS Drawer Magnet Works

In operation, material falls under gravity into the opening of the HFS Drawer Magnet.  Inside the housing are two rows of Tube Magnets, staggered to ensure that all the product has to pass over the surface of a magnet.  The magnetically susceptible particles are attracted and held onto the surface of the Tube Magnet, whilst non-magnetic material passes through.

Bunting Grate Magnet

The HFS design of Drawer Magnet enables easy-cleaning of the Tube Magnets.  Unlike other designs of Easy-Clean Grate Magnet, the Tube Magnets are not positioned within an outer tube and are in direct contact with the product.  This ensures maximum magnetic particle capture.

When the Tube Magnets need to be cleaned (daily cleaning is a recommended minimum requirement), the extended Tube Magnets are manually pulled outside the housing using an external handle.  Any captured magnetic material is stopped from being pulled outside the housing by specially designed Grommets.  These Grommets are positioned in the side of the housing and fitted tightly around each Tube Magnet.  Each Tube Magnet has a non-magnetic tapered end which, on reaching the Grommet, allows the captured metal contamination to fall into a separate collection bin.  The Tube Magnets are then fully cleaned and ready to be re-introduced into the product stream.

Typical Features of the HFS Drawer Magnet

  • For Gravity Flow Applications in All Industries;
  • Configurable design to suit the flow of materials and separation required;
  • High duty construction, for long life;
  • Large range of sizes, magnet types and finishes available;
  • Easily fitted into existing systems, optional  top and bottom transitions available;

28 In Line Magnets Remove Metal from Baby Food

Record Sales for In Line Magnets in 2016

A record 28 Pneumatic In-Line Magnets (PIMs) have been supplied to a major global Baby Food products company in Germany.  The Magnetic Separators are installed into food processing lines to attract and remove any magnetically susceptible materials.

Pneumatic_InLine_Magnet_Bunting_Europe-1608
2 PIMs ready for despatch to Germany

Metal is commonly found in food during processing.  The metal can originate from a breakdown of processing equipment (e.g. failure of a screen or pump), or even be delivered with the food raw materials.  The vast majority of food producers use Magnetic Separators and Metal Detectors to remove and detect any rogue metal before any food product leaves the production plant.

Pneumatic In-Line Magnets (PIMs) are specifically designed for installation into pneumatic conveying systems.  The 28 supplied for the Baby Food application are fitted with extremely powerful Neodymium Iron Boron Rare Earth Magnets.  These produce the highest magnetic field and capture even small shards of metal and work-hardened stainless steel.

The internal design of the PIM ensures that the product flow is not compromised.  The powerful flat-faced magnet with two tapered-steps is mounted on one side of the PIM and swings out from the body for easy cleaning.  To ensure there is no leakage during operation, the flat-faced magnet is held firmly into place by long-threaded bolts.

Bunting Magnetics In Line Magnet-10

The key design features of the PIM are:

  • Designed for unobstructed product flow;
  • Compression couplings speed in-line installation;
  • For dilute phase conveying up to 15 psi;
  • Best suited for horizontal installation;
  • Optional portable cart available for easy handling;
  • Powerful Rare Earth magnetic field covers entire cross-section of product flow;
  • High-energy Rare Earth tapered step plate magnets are standard;
  • Magnet swings out for easy cleaning;
